On Thurs 10th December College musicians and choirs performed their annual Christmas Concert in St Bernard’s Church on the Antrim Road. The church’s excellent acoustics and visibility added to some excellent performances. The orchestra conducted by Martin Wall opened with “A light Overture” followed by a solo on the guitar by Niall Catney. Then followed the wind quartet, the brass ensemble, the barbershop and traditional groups and the jazz ensemble. The junior choir performed three pieces including “When a Child is Born” which they sang on the BBC programme “Our Wee World.”
There were also performances from the training orchestra, the brass ensemble and of course the senior choir. There were fine performances from three different string quartets and the evening was brought to a rousing close with the orchestra’s rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No2 Finale.
Throughout the evening the audience were encouraged to participate with carols liberally interspersed through the performances.
