U16 Basketball team triumph in the All-Ireland Schools Cup quarter final
Not to be outdone by the U19 team, the College’s U16 basketball team have also advanced to the semi-final stage of the All-Ireland Schools Cup defeating Carrigaline Community School, Cork.
In what has been described as ‘another closely contested affair', this time away from home, the St Malachy’s team found themselves on the right side of a 46-40 score line.
Mr Fulton reports that ‘the long journey (on a wet and windy night) was well worth it’ and commended the boys on their ‘great resilience in the face of a Carrigaline side that battled tirelessly to the very end’. John Smye (fresh from his heroics yesterday with the U19 team) contributed an impressive 18 points to the score board. He was ably supported by Niall McGinnity with 11 and point guard Ethan Gibson with 6. Coach, Mr Molloy, is ‘delighted with his squad’ which also includes Peter Henvey, Daniel Hackett, Diarmuid Maguire, John Moran, Dara McGinn and Michael McWilliams.
