Last term, the newly “reconstituted” A Level Politics class paid a visit to the Assembly Buildings at Stormont. College students were joined by pupils from Dominican College, Fortwilliam.
Nineteen students enjoyed a guided tour of the building followed by a question and answer session with a variety of MLAs including: former past pupil, Pat Sheehan (Sinn Fein), Danny Kinahan (UUP) and Anna Lo (Alliance). Each Assembly member outlined how their party had contributed to politics in the North since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. The MLAs were put through their paces by students as they responded to questions on a range of topics such as: voting for Under 16s; shared education; flags, the past and parades, electoral success and change and the future of politics in the province.
It was agreed by all that the trip had been very enjoyable and successful. Hopefully this is the first of many collaborative Politics trips with our sister school.
