SING, SING, SING – Music Update

January was a very busy month in the Music Department as it prepares for a variety of events in the spring term.

Ms Lowry reports that the Junior choir have been busy rehearsing for their concert in the Odyssey in February. College choristers will join with 2500 other school children to perform alongside the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland in an evening of song and dance on Sunday 8th of February.

On Thursday (28th January), Greg Beardshill (Ulster Youth Choir) visited the College for a singing workshop with senior students. Pupils had the opportunity to audition for the UYC’s summer course. Also in attendance at the workshop was Kate Guelke (Spark Opera). Ms Guelke was launching Spark Opera’s Young Person Initiative which will run in school for the next month. Students will have the opportunity to work alongside former Head of Music at the College, Donal McCrisken on a production of excerpts from Gounod’s Faust. Ms Lowry noted that ‘this is a great opportunity for the singers in the College who often find themselves too old for children’s parts and too young for adult roles’.
