On Tuesday 2nd of March, legendary basketball coach, Dave Hopla, visited the College to take two training sessions. Over sixty enthusiastic basketball players participated in the twilight event and students from the College were joined by players from Aquinas, Monkstown Community School, De La Salle, Ballyclare High School and some younger players from our primary schools programme.
Hopla played professionally in Ireland in the early 1980s and has gone on to become one of the most respected and in-demand coaches in the game. He has been an assistant coach in the NBA with the Washington Wizards and more recently with the New York Knicks. Mr Fulton explains that ‘Dave is a wonderful motivational speaker and was very inspirational in his delivery, encouraging the boys to become great shooters, not just good shooters’. Hopla emphasised the importance of having a positive attitude and a great work ethic.
