St Malachy’s ‘B’ through to Round Two of the NI Schools Debating Competition!

Following in the footsteps of the ‘A’ team, St Malachy’s ‘B’ – Johnny McNamee and Ciaran O’Neill (both Year 12) - secured their second-round place in the NI Schools Debating Competition.

The College were up against an impressive team from Belfast High School who proved to be very worthy opponents. As such, it was difficult to separate the two sides after the individual presentations to the floor and it was only in summing up that St Malachy’s inched ahead to secure the win 75-74.

The adjudicator - Mr Derek Bell (a former teacher and judge at the final of the competition) - praised Johnny and Ciaran for their ‘poise’ and ‘confident style’ at the lectern before applauding both teams on a ‘very good debate’.

Congratulations once again to both Year 12 students (and indeed the House) on this excellent result!
