Francofest 2018

FRANCOFEST 2018 was a simulated Trade Fair developed for Year 10 students of French and hosted by NICILT, at Queen’s University in collaboration with the Institut Français. The St Malachy’s team of four of our Year 10 French students represented the College and won the prize for the Best Trade Stand in a competition involving over thirty schools from across Northern Ireland. Our winning team consisted of Ciaran Mc Ginley, Adam Mc Cormick, Eoin Mc Bride and Dominic Mc Auley.

The boys had to create their own company and their own product and sell it, in French, to the judges who acted as customers.

The boys’ company was called ‘ Mon Macaron’ and they sold personalised macaroons to eager customers. They were judged by other professional linguists on their French skills and their business skills.

Afterwards, they were taken on a tour of the Queen’s campus and later attended a talk from the Language Attaché from the Institut Français in London on the importance of the French language and the relevance of having language skills for employability.

Félicitations à Ciaran, Eoin, Dominic et Aidan et Bravo!
